About Us - The Live Music Office
The goals of the Live Music Office are to support the growth of the venue-based live music sector in Australia in order to increase live music performance opportunities and to support live music audience and sector development.
Established in 2013 by the Federal Government in partnership with the Ministry for the Arts, the Australia Council for the Arts and APRA AMCOS, the Live Music Office (LMO) works to increase opportunities for live music in Australia by identifying and advocating for better policy, regulation and strategy.
The Live Music Office is a national resource that supports consistent tools and references to empower, capacity build, and bring direct benefits to artists and industry through providing;
- Information, Advice, and Research: Directly communicating and collaborating with State Music Organisations, Researchers and Media, the Hospitality Industry and all levels of Government.
- Strategic Planning Support: For State and Territory Music Plans, Capital Cities, Regional and Metropolitan Centres, and State and Local Government Working Groups / Taskforces.
- Advocacy: For Better Regulation – Liquor, Building, Town Planning regulatory best practice including Exempt Development and Building Code reform through State Regulation Roundtables and reviews and the public interest test in Liquor Licensing frameworks.
- Industry Development Programs: Creating the Live and Local Strategy to build long term capacity and connectivity for Local Government and the sector in the suburbs and the regions, the Amplify Program, the Live Music Map and Resources.
In 2018 an independent survey undertaken five years on from the establishment of the Office found Live Music Office has scored big wins for the live music scene in Australia and remains important to the music industry. http://livemusicoffice.com.au/review-finds-live-music-office-has-important-future-but-needs-government-support/
